Just a quick reminder for all our wonderful clients, our ACC & private surcharges recently increased, starting the 1st of May 2018. Our new surcharge prices are based on the experience our physio's have. All our physio's are extremely qualified but some have been in the industry for longer and our surcharges reflect that experience. If you have any questions regarding these changes, please do not hesitate to call us on 07 5795601.

What do Sports Physiotherapists do?

Physiotherapy enhances your body's ability to repair and regenerate through manual therapy and soft tissue therapy to relieve pain and stiffness.

Physiotherapists are specifically trained in the assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries or conditions that lead to pain and discomfort. Our physiotherapy team have a specific focus on active rehabilitation from injury. We assess muscles balances and prescribe specific exercises to restore function so you feel stronger and more flexible.

A sports physiotherapist is a recognised professional who demonstrates advanced competencies in the promotion of safe physical activity participation, provision of advice, and adaptation of rehabilitation and training interventions, for the purposes of preventing injury, restoring optimal function, and contributing to the enhancement of sports performance. Sports physiotherapists also have a role in helping those involved in sport and recreational activity to enhance their performance.

All of our physiotherapists here at Foundation are qualified Sports Physiotherapists and work with active recreational athletes, social and club level sport in the clinic setting, and also attend training sessions where we run physiotherapy clinics. All of our therapists work within sporting organisations to coordinate physiotherapy, injury prevention, rehabilitation and injury surveillance programmes.  All physiotherapists complete regular professional development to ensure that we are all equipped with the latest clinical findings in research treatment modalities.

Some of our physiotherapists also work with more elite athletes, working and travelling with individuals and sports teams, integrating their services with other medical professionals, coaches, strength and conditioning personnel and other support staff.

Why sports physiotherapy?

The physiotherapists within the Foundation team are clinical leaders in injuries and biomechanical issues associated with being active.

Whether you are an elite level athlete or a weekend warrior, our physio team has specific knowledge of your chosen sport and pride ourselves in providing contemporary treatment, biomechanical analysis and rehabilitation options.

Acupuncture involves stimulation of specific locations near the surface of the skin, called acupuncture points.

Muscle balance assessments

Many injuries result in muscle imbalances within your body. As part of your recovery your therapist may conduct a muscle balance assessment to identify any imbalances and prescribe exercises to correct these.

A muscle balance assessment is an examination of muscle length, strength, joint movement and core stability to identify areas of weakness that may cause present or future pain and injury. A program of exercises can be given to maximise function and prevent injury.

A muscle balance assessment looks at flexibility, strength and function of all areas of the body, taking into account your sport and any pre-existing injuries. By identifying risk factors a program of exercises can be given to maximize function and prevent injury and problems. Muscle balance assessments are popular with sports people pre- season.

Muscle balance assessments are also extremely valuable in injury prevention and improving performance. If you are starting a new sport, getting back into sport after an extended break or are wanting to improve your performance ask us today about getting one of our therapist to perform a muscle balance assessment.
