Nicola Shaw

Intermediate Physiotherapist

Nicola Shaw

Originally from Wellington, I have spent the last 4 years studying at AUT, graduating in 2019.

Growing up I played a variety of different sports, developing a strong passion for the competitive nature, team moral and being active. I decided physiotherapy was the dream career for me after I dislocated my patella playing netball when I was 15. I was amazed at how quickly I returned to the netball court and it was then that I knew I wanted to help people and to be able to combine that with sport made physiotherapy the right career for me.

Over my years at university I was lucky enough to work in a variety of locations from the side of the rugby field to assessing elderly patients who presented to ED. I love working with patients to return to their previous level of function whether that be returning to sport or a daily activity they have been unable to do. I enjoy the challenge of working with a range of patients and having to think outside the box.

I am excited to make the most of living in Tauranga (especially enjoying some more sunshine than I am used to) so in my spare time you will most likely find me climbing the mount, on the beach or attempting to surf. I also enjoy playing tennis and netball and hanging out with friends and family. I am looking forward to being a part of the Foundation team and learning from the best to develop my skills.
