Who is Tim McGrath?

Tim has extensive sports physiotherapy experience. He holds a PhD from the Research Institute of Sports & Exercise (UCRISE) at the University of Canberra on the topic of ACL rehabilitation of the knee. In addition to his undergraduate Physiotherapy degree and PhD, Tim has completed a post-graduate Master’s Degree in Musculoskeletal and Sports Physiotherapy from Griffith University and Graduate Certificate in Data Science from UNE.

Tim currently works in professional sport as well as directing a multidisciplinary rehab facility in Australia. He is currently Senior Director of Player Health & Performance for the Washington Commanders in the NFL in the USA. He has lectured extensively both in Australia and overseas, and has authored publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Tim also developed  PITCH READY, an objective testing system to identify known risk factors for knee injuries in athlete rehabilitation.

This two-day highly practical course is designed to serve 3 main objectives for participants:

  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of common sporting conditions of the knee and apply this practically to their patients in fundamental rehabilitation processes.
  • Teach participants methods to capture comprehensive evidence-based multi-variate testing to highlight specific rehabilitation themes in post-injured athletes.
  • Teach participants how to use this captured testing data in a practical setting to implement comprehensive individualized rehabilitation programs throughout the rehab journey, and also how to use this information to help determine final readiness for return to sport based on gold-standard principles.
     

Who is this course aimed at?

Doctors, Physiotherapists, Rehabilitation Specialists and Strength and Conditioning Coaches looking to obtain a high level of practical knowledge would benefit the most from this course. Clinicians are encouraged to involve real patients and athletes in the testing and rehab journey to help provide gold-standard care in their rehabilitation journey. There is a particular emphasis on the objective measurement and evidence-based decision-making steps necessary to maximise safe return to sport. 

Learning Objectives:

At the completion of this course, participants will be expected to achieve the following learning objectives:

  • Apply advanced clinical reasoning skills in the assessment and management of common sporting knee and ACL injuries. This includes clinical assessment criteria, strength and plyometric testing methods, and also marker-based 3D biomechanical assessment of change of direction during running tasks.
  • Apply an evidence-based approach to the objective criteria used in the assessment of return to function along the rehabilitation continuum.
  • Apply an advanced level of reasoning and clinical skills in the reconditioning and periodization of training load for the injured athlete.
  • Apply and advanced level of clinical reasoning in determining readiness for return to sport based on gold-standard principles.
