James Hollard

Hi, My name is James Hollard mainly known as Jimmy. I am an 18 year old rower based in Tauranga. I’ll be heading into my 6th season rowing out of Tauranga Rowing Club.

What sport do you compete in?

I compete in rowing. I mostly compete in small boats like quads and pairs, but I love to send a top end men's 8.

What’s your biggest accomplishment so far?

My Biggest accomplishment so far has to be my 2020/2021 rowing season. During that season I was able to win 7 medals over two regattas. 1 bronze 4 silvers and 2 golds and also a top 10 badge for U18 at the Maadi Cup.

What do you love about your sport?

I love the work ethic, the speed, the brute strength and the skill set it has given me on and off the water. I also love the fact that you have to push your body beyond the limits to become the best, or as my old coach Herb would say, “Harder hard, faster faster.”

What are your goals in the next few years?

My current goal for this season is to make it into the NZ U21 team while also picking up some tin along the way. Hope to look for a scholarship to either the states or the UK. Continue to represent NZ in U21-U23 teams and look for world championships.
