Julian David began climbing at the ‘Aims Games’ where he placed third in his first attempt ever at climbing. He knew straight away that climbing was his sport. Soon after he joined the High Performance (HP) group that had been setup to try to get climbers to the 2020 Olympic qualifier in Sydney. David was too young to attend the qualifiers, but his phenomenal achievements through the ranks of the HP squad did not go unnoticed.
In 2022 when the newly formed High Performance Speed climbing program was established, David was the first to be nominated having won the NZ under 18 and Open men’s categories. David has gone on to smash multiple records at the HPSNZ training facility in Cambridge including a 14-year-old standing vertical jump record.
David is described as having raw talent, amazing explosive power and a winning attitude. David has won multiple national titles, Oceania titles and records. He recently returned from the Paris Olympics 2023 where he placed 8th.
